March 20, 2006 – Université de Montréal is a founding member of the network for North American studies in Canada (NNASC), a new initiative of the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America (the Canada US Fulbright Program). The network will be based in Ottawa and connects leading Canadian universities, government agencies, think tanks, and civil society. The idea for this network came about at a Fulbright Program meeting hosted by the Université de Montréal last year.
The network was officially announced at its first public event, a conference on emergency preparedness, which featured a keynote address by the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety. The network will be directed by a governing council led by a group of prominent senior administrators from the four founding Canadian universities: University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto and the Université de Montréal.
