Addiction medicine

Addiction: No judgement
Treating people with substance misuse issues with the respect and care they’re entitled to.
Reinventing care for drug users

Dr. Julie Bruneau, full professor, Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine, a leader in addiction medicine, wants to fight the stigma associated with opioid use and rethink treatment for users. What distinguishes her as a researcher is not only her advanced expertise but also the caring attitude she brings to treatment of a patient population with special issues.
A recognized authority in Canada
Dr. Bruneau’s research program as the Canada Research Chair in Addiction Medicine addresses issues of equity and quality of care for this vulnerable population. She and her research team are investigating ways to improve the well-being of drug users and working to inform best practices in harm reduction for people who inject drugs.
